Interview with Aeternitas, Symphonic Metal Band from Germany

Aeternitas is Underground Symphonic Metal Band from Lubeck, Germany. Aeternitas are Alma Mathar (Vocals), Oliver Bandmann (Vocals), Alexander Hunzinger (Guitar), Anja Hunzinger (Keyboard), Daniel T. Lentz (Guitar), Stefan Baltzer (Bass), and Frank Mölk (Drums). Aeternitas gave us some information. Check it out.

Tell us about AETERNITAS?
We are a modern symphonic metal band from Northern-Germany and looking forward for the release of our new 4th studio album "House of Usher" in October. We have a long band history of more than 15 years with several muscial and personal developments.

What are lyrical themes of AETERNITAS?
We always created concept albums. Within the first two albums - "requiem" and "La Danse Macabre" - we used existing medieval lyrics from the Mass for the Dead and the Dance of Death. Starting with the last album "Rappacinis Tochter" we wrote lyrics based on American Gothic Stories from the 19th centruy. On the last album this was a story from Nathaniel Hawthorne and our current album is based on the the famous story "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allen Poe.

What are your influences?
In the early years there were the godfathers of Gothic Metal "Paradise Lost" and also bands like "Theatre of Tragedy". In the younger past "Within Temptation" or also "Delain" had an influence in our current style.

Can you tell us about Metal Scene in Your Town?
In the past the metal scene in Lübeck - our hometown - was most influenced by Black and Death Metal. As gothic-oriented band we were almost unique. In the meantime there is much diversity, we have also Power Metal oder NuMetal bands here.

Who are Your Germany Favorite Metal Band?
I would't call them my personal favorites, but bands like "Blind Guardian", "Halloween" and "Gammaray" had a huge influence in the German Metal scene.

How were the songs written?
For the current album "House of Usher" I wrote all the songs and did the basic arrangments. In a second step we worked together on the songs in our rehearsal sessions, trying several ideas and imrpoving the songs.

How did the recording process go?
We recorded all the stuff in our own studio. For the vocals we had the support of the vocal producer Henning Basse (Firewind, MaYan) who worked with Alma and Oliver on the vocals. I produced the orchestra and mixed the songs and finally Götz Gretschman from Wonderlandstudio did the Mastering.

What are your future plans?
We are currently working on our new songs to play live in some shows next year. And we will start working on new material to produce a new album in the near future.

Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?
As we've played most of our gigs in Germany every country outside of Germany would be great to play in. Hopefully we can manage this next year beginning with some European countries, and maybe in the future also in North or South America.

What bands would you like to play alongside?
Currently "Delain" would be a great match-up. Once I've met Martijn and the other musicians on a gig backstage and they seem to be really cool guys.

Any last words?
Enjoy our music and enjoy all good music and give the music the value it deserves.
